Basic Food Employment & Training Program (BFET)

A program designed to help individuals receiving food assistance (federal) access job skills training opportunities, receive support services such as child care and transportation, as well as individualized job search, job placement and post-employment retention services through one-on-one coaching with a bilingual case manager.

Case Management

We maintain contact with graduates while they are in training and for the first 90 days of their employment. We provide support services, employer intervention, and additional training and wage progression assistance.

Job Placement

We provide job search and placement for our job search program clients and for our training programs graduates (if required by our funding agencies). Our job search and placements are focused on client goals; many graduates seek positions in warehouse and distribution centers in South King County and around Puget Sound.

Labor and Industry (L&I)

PSTC provides training for clients who have been injured while working on the job and who need to be retrained for employment in a different occupation. These L&I clients receive financial benefits from Washington State Labor and Industry (L&I) until they are retrained and ready to go back to work.

PSTC has developed training programs customized for private companies who are L&I service provider contractors. PSTC customized specialized training contract consist of Warehouse skilled work — such as

  • Forklift operation,
  • Office clerk/Administrative Assistant
  • Computer training, and
  • Basic warehouse training including shipping, receiving and packaging techniques.
  • Electric pallet jack training and certification

Cooperative Work Experience (COOP) and On the Job Training (OJT) is part of the training. The client works closely with a PSTC staff member to learn office procedure and techniques. PSTC also provides HAZWOPER and asbestos training, if appropriate for the client’s injury. If necessary, ESL is part of the training. Training length normally is 8-10 months mostly because of the language barrier and the retraining into a completely different occupation.
